An umpire should pretty much be able to handle getting some heckling and should expect to take some heat if he makes a “questionable” (HORRIBLE) call at a team’s home field. Not the case tonight in Daytona where the Daytona Cubs’ stadium music player, Derek Dye was EJECTED for playing “Three Blind Mice” tonight by umpire Mario Seneca.
The post on the D-Cubs’ Facebook page was:
“We’ve just entered the twilight zone at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Our music man, Derek Dye, has been EJECTED from tonight’s game. The umpire, Mario Seneca, was apparently not happy when Derek played “Three Blind Mice” after a questionable call. With no music system, a fan has stepped up to call out player introductions from the stands.”
Fortunately, the D-Cubs had a fan step up and call out player introductions…otherwise the ballpark would have been subject to nothing but the umpire’s over-zealous self promotion.
The video of the over-officious jerk tossing Dye can be seen here.
